Description

The American tradition in the visual arts is explored in this lecture. The colonial portraiture of Gilbert Stuart, the epic history paintings of Benjamin West, the Hudson River School landscapes of Thomas Cole, the western masterpieces of Frederic Remington, The Harlem Renaissance paintings of Aaron Douglas, and the Abstract Expressionism of Jackson Pollock are covered.
