Full course description

LIVE IN-PERSON COURSE for adults ages 50 and older!

This class is actually a historical portrayal of Helen Beatrix Potter. The presentation is divided between the narrator, and the "woman of the hour" dressed in period costume as she tells her story on a small theatrical set. The English children's book author of "The Tale of Peter Rabbit" began a very different life when she reached her 35th birthday. Being raised in an upper-class family in London, she changed her style of living by finding happiness in her move to the countryside of the Lake District where she continued to write and paint, but also becoming a farmer. She enriched her life by raising endangered sheep, writing scientific papers, and becoming politically active. This shy personality then went on to join the developers of the British National Trust movement to preserve the land in its natural state, and she also admired, and thus promoted the ideals of the Arts and Crafts Movement. Included in the program are two songs of the time period, sung by Stephanie Kramer accompanying herself on guitar, and after the epilogue, there will be an opportunity for questions and comments.
