Description

LIVE CLASS HELD IN-PERSON for adults ages 50 and older!

The Academic painters Adolphe Bouguerau, Ernest Meissonier, and Jean-Leon Gerome created realist paintings that expressed the ideology of the French Academy. Social Realists such as Gustave Courbet, Jean-Francois Millet, and Honore Daumier called attention to the plight of the poor. The Barbizon painters created pastoral landscapes with dream-like settings. These painters invented the realism that immediately anticipated Impressionism.
