Entry of the United States into World War II affected jewelry manufacturing in direct and indirect ways. The non-military use of metals was severely curtailed. Therefore, jewelry designers turned to other materials to make unique pieces that today are prized for their originality, creativity, and novelty. Those attending this program will learn of the efforts of jewelers to create items that lifted the spirits of a war-weary nation. They will see how jewelry manufacturing was intertwined with the rationing of goods and products in the United States. They will see and examine lots of examples of sweetheart jewelry, homefront jewelry, and post-war souvenir jewelry.
