Full course description

Description

Abstract Expressionism appeared in the 1950's and established the first American school of painting that was entirely a unique American creation. For the first time American art was the trend setter for Europe. It's principles of spontaneity, drip painting, and action painting evolved from philosophies such as Existentialism and Greenbergian Formalism. It's masters were Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Franz Kline, and Mark Rothko. Best to wear a smock as you will get wet.
