IN-PERSON COURSE for adults ages 50 and older!
William Sydney Mount invented our genre tradition. His paintings featured common people doing common things like playing music, bar room dancing, and scenes of his native Long Island. George Caleb Bingham was known in his lifetime as “The Missouri Artist” for his paintings of life on the Missouri River. Henry Ossawa Tanner portrayed the plight of poor blacks . Together they preserved the character of 19th century American life.
