LIVE IN-PERSON COURSE for adults ages 50 and older!

This course will discuss the highs and lows of the movie and stage actor, Mickey Rooney. He was born into the entertainment business. Mickey was on the vaudeville stage at 14 months. He was one of the early movie pioneers. Rooney starred in several comedy shorts that competed directly with the Our Gang comedies. These comedies featured Mickey under the name Mickey McGuire. Mickey was so popular that the head of MGM, Louis B. Bayer signed him to a long term contract. Some of his film successes with MGM were the Andy Hardy films. He co-starred with Judy Garland in 3 of those movies. Mickey appeared in several hit movies until he joined the US Army. Upon his return from the Army, he appeared on radio shows and in some movies. In the 1950s Mickey performed in both movies and television shows. This course will discuss Mickey's 8 marriages and 9 children and his troubles with managing money. In the 1990s he appeared with the dancer Ann Miller in the hit Broadway show, Sugar Babies. Mickey and Ann would take Sugar Babies on the road.
