Course
NEW! The Classical in the Baroque: The Art of Gian Lorenzo Bernini
Dec 3, 2026 - Dec 3, 2026
Full course description
Description
Gian Lorenzo Bernini personified the purity of the Classical tradition in his art. He blended it with the exuberance of the Italian Baroque to create a stunning transmutation of the two styles where he embodied the balanced harmony of the classical past with the emotionalism of the Baroque. In works like his sculpture of the Apollo and Daphne and his superb decoration of the interior of St. Peters he established himself as the greatest master of 17th century sculpture and architecture.
