Description
July 3, 1863 at the Battle of Gettysburg: Twenty-one-year-old Captain Wells Waite Miller of the 8th OVI—"a bruised and undersized regiment"—played a crucial role in the Union's victory at Pickett's Charge. Chosen to lead an outpost 100 yards away from the main Union line, Miller and 150 courageous men faced down 6,000 desperate Rebels against seemingly insurmountable odds. Fighting valiantly, they "broke an entire . . . brigade of the Army of Northern Virginia." This book celebrates the life of this forgotten Civil War hero. During a seven-year research period, the author connected with several of Miller's descendants, experiencing remarkable synchronicities between Wells' life and her own.
