The French and English Royal Academies were the first true art schools in history. They had a curriculum based on classical art and the ancient concept of ideal beauty. It's the age of Louis the XIV, The Palace of Versailles, and French pomp. Nicolas Poussin, Thomas Gainsborough, Antoine Watteau, and Jean-Honore Fragonard are discussed as well as the Rococo and it's influence in France and Germany.
