Few Painters have been as influential as Rembrandt. His style changed the course of western art. Primarily a portraitist, he also made important contributions to landscape and printmaking affecting such artists as Goya, Courbet, Manet, and the movements of Impressionism and Expressionism. His personal life ran the gamut from enormous success to eventual bankruptcy. However, after his financial collapse he created some of his most important and influential work.
