The Homeric epics of the Iliad and the Odyssey, the legendary King Minos, the labyrinth of the Minotaur, tales of brave Achilles, a gold mask once thought to be Agamemnon himself are some of the interesting topics suggested in the art of the ancient Aegean cultures of the Cycladic Islands, Crete, and Mycenae. It was here in the 2nd millennium BCE that the western tradition in art began.
