The art of nomadic barbarian tribes such as the Goths, the Celts, and the Anglo-Saxons is the subject of this fascinating lecture. Manuscripts, metallurgical crafts, and the art of the court of Charlemagne are covered in this survey of a time after the fall of the Roman Empire when monasteries were the sole place of learning.
