Full course description
Description
Perhaps the best known and most studied of the 2nd century apocryphal Gospels, the Gospel of Thomas is a collection of sayings attributed to Jesus that sometimes parallel and sometimes diverge dramatically from sayings attributed to him in the canonical Gospels. When they diverge, the sayings often reflect a “Gnostic” view of the universe. Participants will learn about the discovery and historical context of the gospel and will, through study of its content, gain fresh insight into the diversity of early Christian thought.
