Local author Jennifer Boresz Engelking will share stories of Lake Erie from her new book, The Hidden History of Lake Erie (published by The History Press on Oct. 28, 2025.) The intriguing tales include that of coins and artifacts recently discovered from the long-ago shipwreck, the G.P. Griffith, along with the menacing, mysterious Lake Erie Monster, and a whiskey ship that vanished more than a century ago in the western basin. Jennifer's book also includes legends like Joe Root in Erie and legendary places like the Belle Isle Boathouse in Detroit, along with tragedies, like the Ashtabula bridge disaster, and triumphs, like the day Niagara Falls was turned off, which changed the way we live today. Jennifer Boresz Engelking is a local author who has written five books including: Hidden History of Lake Erie; Lost Lake Erie; Lost Lake County, Ohio; Hidden History of Lake County, Ohio.; and Our Lady of Lourdes National Shrine of Euclid, Ohio (co-written with Joanne Boresz and coming in April 2026.) She is a Cleveland State University graduate and award-winning and regional Emmy–nominated writer, who has been published in magazines and newspapers, including Echoes Magazine, the News-Herald and Lake Erie Living. She was a reporter for several years at CBS stations in Toledo and Erie and has written and co-produced historical documentaries that have aired on PBS. She even once played a reporter in the Tony Scott–directed film Unstoppable. Jennifer was born, raised and still resides in Lake County, Ohio, near the shores of Lake Erie, where she enjoys exploring nearby beaches, islands and parks with her husband and three children.
