Robot Derby I: Build, Code, Battle

FOR KIDS AGES 10-13

Build a robot. Teach it to move. Then put it to the test!

In this introduction to LEGO Education SPIKE Essential, students learn how robots are built, programmed, and controlled. They’ll use block-based coding to create their own programs and learn how to make their robots drive, turn, and perform different actions.

Students will explore the fundamentals of robotics, including:

• Connecting and controlling motors
• Programming robots to drive and turn
• Sequencing actions
• Testing, troubleshooting, and improving their programs
• Designing and adjusting their robots for better performance

We will then put their skills to the test in a Robot Derby! Robots will face off in the ring, with the robot that remains inside advancing to the next round. Students will have the opportunity to design, program, test, and fine-tune their robots while experiencing the problem-solving and creativity that make engineering fun!

No previous robotics or coding experience is required.
