FOR KIDS AGES 10-13
Your robot can drive. Now make it think!
In Derby II, students build on the skills from Robot Derby I and explore more advanced programming and robot design. They’ll learn how to use loops, conditions, and events to create programs that allow their robots to respond to what is happening around them.
Students will also explore additional SPIKE Essential features, including:
- Color sensor: Detecting the edge of the ring
- Motion sensor: Detecting movement, tilting, and impacts
- Light matrix: Providing feedback and adding personality to their robots
Students will also experiment with robot design and strategy, including gearing, weight, traction, and wedge designs. With only two ports available on the hub, students must make thoughtful choices about which motors and sensors will give their robot the best advantage.
The session concludes with an advanced Robot Derby, where students put their programming, engineering, and strategic thinking to the test. They'll test their designs, make adjustments, and see how their decisions perform in the ring.
Derby I or previous LEGO SPIKE/Scratch experience is recommended.
